Marine shippers seen reporting profit declines for April-June

TOKYO -- Japan's top three marine transportation companies likely saw pretax profits fall on the year in the April-June period as gains linked to currency exchange rates dried up and the recovery remained lackluster in some markets.

The yen's slide against other currencies has run its course, and the three shippers felt the impact as gains from exchange rates, which boosted each company's profit by about 3 billion yen ($29.1 million) in the same quarter last year, essentially disappeared.
