Open Letter to my fellow ANC comrades

“I stand here before you not as a prophet but a humble servant of you, the people.” – Nelson Mandela

Throughout his career as a politician the honorable former president always stressed and practiced the principle that leaders must dedicate themselves to serving the people. I humbly appeal to my fellow ANC comrades especially those deployed in government from ward councilors to the head of state that we try with all our might to apply this principle without fail.

The African National Congress liberated the people of South Africa and continues to improve the lives of ordinary South Africans but there is still a long way to go…The ANC admits that as much as it has made South Africa a better place to live in the last twenty years there is a lot that still needs to be done. I strongly believe that if our leaders dedicated themselves whole heartedly to serving the people, the wheels of change will start to move a bit faster.

Corruption continues to undermine not only the good work that has been done by our government but it also undermines the African National Congress as an organization. Since its formation in 1912 the ANC has gone on to produce great leaders, leaders of integrity, selfless leaders, leaders whose sole purpose was to serve the people of South Africa…Chief Albert Luthuli, Oliver Tambo, Walter Sisulu, Harry Gwala to mention a few…These men were willing to die for their beliefs, these men were willing to put their lives on the line in their pursuit of making South Africa a better place to live in for all. Our current leaders need to look beyond petty politics, loyalty to individuals and temptations of corruption and start to serve the people and only, the people.

The service delivery protests throughout the country tell a story of the masses who are frustrated by the lack of service delivery in their respective areas of residence, what is even more frustrating are the allegations of corruption by government officials that continue to make the headlines almost every day. Corruption is a disease and we must triple our efforts in fighting corruption, in the fight against corruption no stone must be left unturned regardless of the position a cadre holds in government. Let us not focus on protecting corrupt cadres but focus on protecting ordinary South Africans from corrupt cadres.

Despite the challenges our organization faces, the 2014 National Elections proved that the majority of South Africans still believe that only the African National Congress can improve their lives and make this country a prosperous country.

In response to the faith showed by the people in our organization, the ANC must respond with innovative and sustainable solutions to the problems that our country face. What is even more important is the attitude and the speed in which the government delivers these innovative and sustainable services to the people. Throughout the election campaign the people raised their issues and the ANC listened, therefore I strongly believe that the ANC understands the burning issues in our society. Fellow comrades let us humble ourselves, practice selflessness, stop being GREEDY and serve the people of South Africa.

I am not an expert in politics, I’m just an ordinary South African who loves South Africa, the African National Congress and would like to see our country prosper.

Viva ANC Viva!!!!!
