Video: 'Woodstock' doc releases new concert footage

A new edition of 'Woodstock' is out this week on Blu-ray. It includes never-before-seen performance footage.

The second-best thing to being at Woodstock is watching the 1970 documentary about the landmark music festival. Directed by Michael Wadleigh and edited by (among others) Martin Scorsese and Thelma Schoonmaker, the film is as captivating to watch as it is to hear.

A special 40th anniversary edition of Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace and Music was released a few years ago, but this week marks the arrival of the Limited Edition Revisited.

The new Blu-ray includes a bunch of never-before-seen footage from acts including Jefferson Airplane, Joan Baez, The Who, Santana and Crosby, Stills & Nash. Today I'm happy to debut a never-before-seen clip of singer-songwriter Melanie singing Bob Dylan's Mr. Tambourine Man.

The Blu-ray package also includes reproductions of Woodstock tickets, an iron-on patch, a reprinted article from Life magazine and more extras. If you're a Woodstock completist and the original three-hour version isn't enough, you may want to grab this while it's available.

Giveaway: Did I mention I'm giving away copies of this new release to three Pop Candy readers? To enter, you must answer this question:

What's your favorite Woodstock performance?

Send your responses to popcandy@usatoday.com with the subject line "WOODSTOCK" by July 30 at 5 p.m. ET. Good luck!
