Even though Jorge Lorenzo is said to be just fine with Yamaha, the mid-summer rumor mill keeps on turning and various speculations and paddock whispers still make it to the surface. The most recent one speaks about Jorge Lorenzo’s 1+1 new contract with the house of Iwata, and that the extra year option is in fact his way out for a possible move to Ducati, solomoto believes.
Reportedly, the Ducati Corse boss Gigi Dall’Igna offered Lorenzo a Borgo Panigale ride and 16 million Euro ($) for a 2-year contract, but the Mallorcan refused the offer. Still, his refusal is rumored to only be a temporary one, with Lorenzo’s 1 year firm contract and the possibility for extending it for another season being part of a bigger plan.

Truth be told, it was only natural seeing Lorenzo turning down Ducati’s offer, in the absence of nothing else than promises for a competitive motorcycle in the future. Yamaha’s YZF-M1 no longer needs to prove anything: it can give Hondas a ride for their money and both Lorenzo and his team mate Valentino Rossi have showed what it can do over the last season and a half. Simply jumping in the Ducati cart wagon didn’t seem like a wise or polite choice for Lorenzo, especially as his team mate has already got his fair share of frustration aboard a bike he could not master.

However, an official announcement from both Jorge Lorenzo and Yamaha is expected to be made in early August, before the second half of the season kicks off at Indianapolis. With Ducati working around the clock to ready the new Desmosedici GP15 for the Valencia post-race test, the autumn will be so much more interesting. If Dall’Igna’s new bike proves it can hold the pace with Honda and Yamaha, who could tell how the 2015 grid will look.
