"Fan service" movies seem to be all the rage this summer in China. Girls, the domestic Chinese film about guimi, or female best friends, releasing today, is no exception.

Starring actresses Ivy Chen, Yang Zishan and Fiona, Girls tells the story of the decade-long friendship between three women who have very different life goals, such as becoming an independent film director or having a family, and end up having very different life experiences.

At a press conference for the film in Beijing, director Babara Wong said the film, starring young beauties and handsome men, is sure to be popular among young moviegoers, and that she was confident that the film would exceed 600 million yuan ($97 million) at the box office.

The summer movie season is one of the most important seasons for Chinese films, as well as the most competitive.

Currently, Guo Jingming's Tiny Times 3.0 and Han Han's The Continent are among the top five films at the domestic box office chart.

It is estimated that Girls will perform well as the popularity of the other two films begins to die off.
