Manchester City could see a rejuvinated Stevan Jovetic next season after the Montenegrin quashed talk of a move to Inter Milan.

The 24-year-old has endured a difficult start to life at the Etihad since joining from Fiorentina in 2013.

The striker has been reduced to just 13 appearances for the Premier League champions amid competition from Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko for a place in Manuel Pellegrini's starting line up.

His lack of football alerted Italian giants Inter Milan to his situation, with the Nerazzurri reportedly preparing a bid to take him to the San Siro.

But Jovetic and Pellegrini agree that the out-of-favour striker still has an important role to play at the champions.

"Stevan is working fine with us. He's a very important player for our team. Perhaps there are many rumours on his future, but Stevan will stay with us," Pellegrini told Italian media.

Jovetic scored City's first goal in their 5-1 rout of AC Milan on Sunday at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, US.

Glowing reports from the US speak of Jovetic's performances in training, which have translated into positive ones in games.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said he wanted to remain at City and show fans what he was capable of.

"I never said it was better to leave England," he said. "I know I'm good, I know I can play here. In the last few months of the season, when I was fit, I played well, every game.

"I have the manager's confidence and I feel stronger. I hope now the City fans will see the real Jovetic."

He added that injuries had contributed to his lack of first team football in a City shirt but he was now feeling fit ahead of the new Premier League season.

With Aguero not due to report back to City until 4 August after reaching the World Cup final, Jovetic is likely to feature against Arsenal in the Community Shield on 10 August.
