KORAPUT: In view of Martyrs' Week being observed by Maoists from Monday, the railways has decided not to ply trains between Dantewada and Kirandul via Koraput at night.
The only passenger train on Visakhapatnam-Kirandul-Visakhapatnam via Koraput route will be short-terminated at Jagdalpur during the week. "Passengers have to make their own arrangements to reach Kirandul," said a senior railway officer at Koraput.
Official sources said 10 rakes, carrying iron ore, run on this route daily during the day and two at night. "The railways is going to lose Rs 11 crore revenue during this week as it earns Rs 70 to 80 lakh from each rake of iron ore," the officer said.
Police said the Maoists may blow up tracks during the Martyrs' Week to make their presence felt in the district. "The railway officials have been asked to remain alert and short-terminate passenger trains at night," a police officer said.
