US House approves Transparent Airfares Act on 28-Jul-2014

US House of Representatives approved (28-Jul-2014) the Transparent Airfares Act on 28-Jul-2014, the bipartisan legislation that aims to "return transparency to US airfare advertising." The bill passed the House by voice vote. Chairman Bill Shuster stated, "It simply clarifies that it is not an unfair or deceptive practice to advertise a base airfare price as long as the government-imposed taxes and fees and the total cost are clearly and separately disclosed as well. No more hiding the ball from consumers." Airlines for America (A4A) and Air Line Pilots Association, Int'l (ALPA) welcomed the decision. A4A stated the bill's passage is a "critical step toward delivering transparency customers need and deserve." [more - original PR - US House] [more - original PR - ALPA] [more - original PR - A4A]
