It was a time to recall the good old days and catch up with friends for alumni of the Pondicherry Engineering College at a reunion meeting held on July 26. Students from the first batch of Bachelor of Engineering (1985-1989) and the first batch of the Master of Computer Applications (1986-1989) met after a gap of 25 years.
Forty alumni from different places such as New Jersey, California, Canada, Abu Dhabi, New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Puducherry met with their families. While many are working for companies such as Microsoft, Oracle, HP India, and Aricent, some are also working in academic institutions in Puducherry.
The alumni planted trees to mark the occasion of the silver jubilee reunion meeting. Professors who taught the batch were honoured. Professor D. Govindarajulu, Principal, presided over the function while former Principal Dr. V. Prithviraj spoke of the laurels the batch had brought.
S. Srinivasan, president of the Pondicherry Engineering College Alumni Association, addressed the gathering. N.S.J. Jayabal, chairman, Pondicherry Engineering College, requested the alumni to participate in development activities of the institution. The Three Ps of Corporate Sustenance
Looking at corporate sustenance through the prism of three P’s- Planet, People and Profit, the Department of Corporate Secretaryship of Bharathidasan Government College for Women in association with the Institute of Company Secretaries of India held a conference on ‘National Paradigm for Corporate Sustenance – 3 P’s Management’.
Dr. Baiju Ramachandran, chairman, Institute of Company Secretaries of India, spoke about The Companies Act, 2013 and the changes it has brought in provisions relating to governance, e-management, compliances, enforcements and disclosure norms.
The conference evaluated the management of people, profit and planet in corporate governance, social entrepreneurship and social responsibility of managerial personnel
Around 180 people from Puducherry, Chennai, Madurai, Kerala and Karnataka, including chartered accountants and company secretaries participated in the conference.
There were nine resource persons for the technical sessions. There were 60 paper presentations by academic staff, research scholars and corporate professionals under topics like corporate governance and social responsibility, environmental accounting and audit, social entrepreneurship and investors’ protection.
S. Diraviam, vice president-legal and secretary, Indowind Energy Chennai, delivered the keynote address on sustainable development.
