Tribune News Service

Mohali, July 28
A local court today extended the police remand of Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) senior assistant Tarun Kumar Bhagirath, who has been accused of embezzlement, by another three days.

After his three-day police remand ended today, Tarun was produced before the court of Mohali Judicial Magistrate.

The Mohali police requested the court to extend his police remand on the plea that they have to interrogate him about involvement of other PSEB officials in the case. “We have recovered Rs 11 lakh from his account in a private bank at Phase VII. The accused had tried to withdraw money before his arrest but could not succeed as his accounts were already sealed,” said Mohali SSP Inder Mohan Singh Bhatti.

Tarun was suspended by the board on July 15 after his involvement in siphoning off funds came to light. A case was registered against him under Sections 409 and 120 B of the IPC at the Phase VIII police station.

Navy Commander’s wife defrauded of rightful property
In-laws booked for cheating

Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, July 28
After a struggle of nearly six months by a 41-year-old woman, the widow of a Late Navy Commander, the UT police have booked her in-laws in a case of cheating and criminal conspiracy.

The UT police have registered a case of forgery and criminal conspiracy against a Rajasthan-based couple — Gurparkash Singh Dhillon (75) and Manjot Kaur Dhillon (70) — on the complaint of the wife of a Late Navy Commander that her in-laws ‘grabbed’ her rightful property illegally.

As per the case, it is alleged that Gurprakash and Manjot hatched a conspiracy to transfer the land owned by their son and cheated the complainant.

The complainant, Sukhmani Dhillon, a resident of Phase X in Mohali, stated in the complaint that she is the wife of Late Commander Gagandeep Singh Dhillon and has a 13-year-old daughter, who is suffering from an ailment ‘Hemangieoma,’ who has undergone 14 surgeries for the same.

Sukhmani said her husband died in the line of duty in 2006. She said that he had earlier purchased four kanal of agricultural land in Khasra in village Khuda Ali Sher.

In July 2013, Sukhmani was shocked to know that her father-in-law Gurparkash and mother-in-law Manjot were trying to sell the land owned by their late son without seeking her consent.

The complainant applied for a copy of the Jamabandi and ran from pillar to post to secure the document of her land, besides filing RTIs in this regard.

Sukhmani got to know that Manjot had transferred the land in her name in June 2013. She then filed an appeal for the cancellation of mutation to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.

It was also found after the perusal of documents that Gurparkash and his wife Manjot had filed a false affidavit dated May 22, 2013, stating that their son was unmarried and had died issueless, much to the shock of the complainant as she and her daughter were left as non-entities.

Later, Manjot, to save herself from the prosecution, filed an application stating that she was not aware of how the land was transferred in her name.

This was a blatant lie as she had personally presented the death certificate of her son to the patwari. Sukhmani filed a complaint in January this year and after a long struggle with the police, her case has finally been registered.

case file
In her complaint, Sukhmani Dhillon has stated that her father-in-law Gurparkash and mother-in-law Manjot allegedly hatched a conspiracy to transfer the land owned by their late son.
