BTech students on hunger strike against MHRD’s decision

“We strongly condemn the decision taken by the education ministry. The lives of many students are in jeopardy and MHRD is doing nothing about this. Even other government bodies like All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and UGC are also doing nothing about this. Our institute was setup in 1953 after which the AICTE was made a statutory body, it therefore denied responsibility of recognizing our course. We are in a deadlock now,” said Rajiv Patel, who graduated from the institute and at presents teaches and guides the students.

Rajiv said that they have filed a case against the MHRD in Delhi High Court and are waiting for the result. He added that at an average 30,000 students graduate every year from IETE he said, “I am saddened and worried about the future of the students.”

Another student form Lucknow who was a 2010 pass out form that college, gold medalist, said that he was denied a job in government sector.

“I was not employed in any of the government schools in Uttar Pradesh. I had cleared a government exam in teachers training (UP BTC) but was stopped during the documentation process where the state government refused my degree certificate by saying it invalid,” said Ranjeet Singh. He also said that he filed a case in the Lucknow High Court against the UP government in 2012 for which the case the still pending.

Manish Kumar, a student who is in his final year of the degree course is apprehensive about his future. “I am not sure of my job either in public or private sector. I guess I have to take up a one year professional course to cover this and secure a job.”
