Bolivia,Colombia : MILLICOM rolls out its 4G service in BOLIVIA, with a lofty price tag although [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Millicom has made an announcement on the initiation of its 4G network in the Bolivian market.

With this, Bolivia has become the second country to have 4G connectivity from the company after Colombia.

Millicom had rolled out its first 4G network in last December in Colombia.

Because of the lofty cost, the newly launched 4G service of the company is unlikely to create much wave among the Bolivians.

Millicom, a leading telecom operator serving customers in 15 markets in Africa and Latin America, has been offering the 4G coverage to over half of the 10.5-million people of Bolivia. The service has been introduced under the brand name of Tigo.

Millicom expects to expand its service significantly within the year 2018 to cover 170 municipalities, which represents 70% of the country s population.

Issuing a statement on Thursday, the CEO of Millicom - Hans-Holger Albrecht revealed, "Today's launch of the super high-speed service in Bolivia is our latest innovation in the country following the launch of our satellite TV service there in April." Albrecht added, "It represents our commitment to transforming lives with the digital lifestyle and we hope that people in Bolivia will enjoy its benefits over the next few years." Tigo's 4G offering, on the other hand, is unlikely to be affordable to all Bolivians, and it is believed that only well-offs are going to be comfortable with the service.

Customer will have to shell out US$50 (345.50 bolivianos) every month to enjoy the 4G service.

The minimum wage in the country is BOB1,488 ($215) per month, while reports show the 45% of the Bolivians live below poverty line, with a usage of not even $2 per-head-per-day.
