“Headhunters” helmer Morten Tyldum has come on to direct the adaptation of the Swedish thriller “Chain of Events” with Mark L. Smith attached to adapt.
Described as “World War Z” meets “The Da Vinci Code,” the book was written by Frederick T. Olsson and follows a washed-up cryptologist who finds himself pulled into an international conspiracy that claims to have created a way to map out all human disasters and terrorism through our DNA.
Warners preemptively acquired the rights to the book last August and will now look to attach a producer to the project while Smith pens the script.
Jesse Ehrman and Racheline Benveniste will oversee for the studio.
Tyldum recently wrapped production on the Weinstein Co. pic “The Imitation Game” starring Benedict Cumberbatch, which is expected to be a contender in this year’s awards season. He is also developing a handful of projects including “The Disciple Program” at Universal with Mark Wahlberg attached to direct.
Smith is becoming a favorite at WB after delivering a few drafts the studio is interested in moving along, including “Queen of the Tearling” with Emma Watson attached to star and “Norse” and “Endurance,” both of which are being produced by Leonardo DiCaprio’s banner, Appian Way.
