Kate returns to casual uniform at Scottish Games
The young royals were warmly applauded when they arrived at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland today, but the fashion-savvy are likely to sigh about Duchess Kate's recycling her casual uniform.
By now you know it: Navy jacket. Navy skinny jeans. Light blue blouse. Navy suede wedge heels. Navy suede clutch. It's her go-to look for almost any casual event, especially involving sport, but also a familiar sight during the April Down Under tour.
Prince William and Prince Harry were casual, too — jeans and white shirts — when the trio arrived to watch artistic gymnastics competition at the arena in Glasgow, where the Games are in their fifth day. But few people follow their fashion choices.
Even the blogs that admire Kate are getting a little tired of the same look, even if it's convenient.
"It's obviously a look she feels very comfortable in and for someone who tends to put a lot of consideration into her clothing choices, it's a look that requires very little planning and preparation (yes, yes I do agree it would be great to see her change it up)," the HRHDuchessKate blog reported today.
But royals believed to be frugal get points from the taxpayers who support them, an important consideration in Scotland as it's preparing to vote in September on whether to leave the United Kingdom.
It's Kate's second recycling episode in the last few days; on Saturday, she attended a wedding of friends wearing a Jenny Packham dress she last wore to a polo match in Santa Barbara during their brief visit to California in 2011.
Meanwhile, much speculation about what Kate was doing with her smartphone as Will and Harry watched. Tweeting? Snapping pictures? Harry recently declared he hates Twitter but what about his sister-in-law?
Don't expect a comment on that from the palace.
