UPSC exam row to be resolved in a week

Protests are being held against CSAT in many parts of the country since last month

New Delhi/Lucknow: The Centre said on Monday that the row over the UPSC Civil Services Aptitude Test will be resolved within a week. Union home minister, Rajnath Singh said, “The UPSC issue will be resolved within a week. Discussions are going on.”

Mr Singh said he held a meeting Sunday to find a way out after a directive from Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the students’ protests.

The home minister said the report of the three-member government-appointed panel examining the demands of IAS aspirants to change the CSAT pattern to give a level playing field to those coming from rural areas will be available soon.

But he was non-committal on whether the civil services preliminary examination, due to be held on August 24, will be postponed.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said that he has written to the PM seeking his intervention in the controversy. The Chief Minister says in his letter he has sought a review of the format of questions as it hurts the prospects of students belonging to Hindi-speaking areas and those speaking regional languages.

Protests are being held against CSAT in many parts of the country since last month, and these got momentum in the past one week.

Congress vice-president, Rahul Gandhi, assured a delegation of Civil Services aspirants that no injustice will be done to them and he will raise their concerns at all appropriate fora. The 21-member delegation of aspirants led by NSUI president Rohit Chaudhary Mr Rahul at his residence here.
