GREATER NOIDA: Tension gripped Rabupura in Greater Noida on Monday morning after a mob went on the rampage following an accident in which two persons, including a minor, suffered serious injuries.
According to the police, minutes after a speeding tractor rammed into an eatery in the area at 9am, severely injuring its owner and a 12-year-old boy, identified as Nitesh, local residents blocked the arterial road and then started throwing stones at vehicles, including a police van which had arrived at the spot.

“Both the injured have been admitted to a government hospital. But the driver of the tractor managed to flee the spot, which also enraged the locals,” a police officer said.
In fact, the situation turned so violent that police had to finally use batons to disperse the crowd. “The superintendent of police (rural) and the sub-divisional magistrate reached the spot to pacify the agitators. But the mob tried to attack police. It was then that we resorted to lathicharge on the locals,” the official said.
Heavy police forces have been deployed in and around the area.
“We have lodged an FIR against the tractor driver and at the same time, we are scrutinizing the role of some people who had probably hurt the sentiments of the locals. Police have been deployed in the village,” a district administration official said.
