Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Monday demanded an immediate and independent inquiry into corruption charges against Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and his family.
Earlier, the State BJP in its political resolution after its three-day core executive committee meeting in Solan over the weekend had also demanded an urgent probe against the Chief Minister.
While explaining the political situation in the hill State, the party executive alleged that Mr. Singh was just indulging in political revenge, transfers and corruption instead of focussing on development. It alleged that the Chief Minister was framing the top BJP leadership in false political cases and transferring and torturing government employees on political considerations.
The cases of corruption against Mr. Singh were raised by the State and Central leadership of the BJP during the UPA regime also but of no avail, said the resolution. Since there is a new government at the Centre, with zero tolerance on corruption, the party expects an immediate action against Mr. Singh who is facing charges of having disproportionate income and filing false income tax returns.
