Smarting from the party’s poor performance in the byelection to three Assembly seats in Uttarakhand, Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah on Monday called a meeting of State leaders and sought a report on the drubbing.

The BJP’s performance came as a rude blow to the party leadership as it was expecting its candidates to win all the seats.

Apart from losing Dharchula, the party failed to win Doiwala and Someshwar, both of which are considered its stronghold and were vacated by the former Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal and Ajay Tamta after winning the Lok Sabha election.

The BJP president has sought an explanation from the State leadership, which includes the three former Chief Ministers, Ramesh Pokhriyal, B.C. Khanduri and Bhagat Singh Koshyari.
