German benchmark DAX index drops by 0.48 pct

The benchmark DAX index at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange continued to slip and lost 45.84 points on Monday.

The DAX opened positively thanks to new economic data from Asia, but then it went soon to the negative territory and closed at 9598.17 points, down by 0.48 percent than the previous trading day.

"Given the crisis in Ukraine and in the Gaza Strip, but also in Libya or Iraq, investors are shying away from risk," said Folker Hellmeyer, chief economist at Bremer Landesbank.

K+S Aktiengesellschaft, one of the world's leading suppliers of fertilizers and the world's leading producer in the salt business, won 1.58 percent and topped the list of the risers.

The chemical and pharmaceutical company Merck KGaA, the personal care company Beiersdorf Aktiengesellschaft, the Linde AG and the Bayer AG followed with an increase of 1.29 percent, 0.94 percent, 0.72 percent and 0.59 percent respectively.

The carmaker Daimler AG dropped 3.18 percent, leading the faller's list Monday. Deutsche Post AG, BMW AG St, Volkswagen AG Vz and adidas AG also fell 2.44 percent, 2.22 percent, 2.17 percent and 1.75 percent respectively.

The turnover stood at 2.96 billion euros (around 3.98 billion U.S. dollars). Enditem
