Ryots worried over farm loan waiver: Jana

July 28, 2014 10:25 pm | Updated 10:25 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Telangana Congress Legislature Party leader K. Jana Reddy has said that farmers in the new State were a worried lot over the delay in waiver of the farm loans.

At a press conference here on Monday, Mr. Reddy along with MLC P.Sudhakar Reddy said that ryots were concerned that no clear cut guidelines have been issued so far. As many as 80 farmers have committed suicide in the last two months alone after they could not repay their loans.

He claimed that the Congress party has been explaining the plight of the farmers to the Government from time-to-time. The deficit rainfall has only added to their woes, he said adding that the Government should implement the waiver immediately.

Mr. Jana Reddy termed as unfortunate the lathicharge on the Osmania University students, who were protesting Government decision to regularise the contract employees. He said efforts should be made to fill up the vacancies in each department so that the unrest among the students subsidises.

He lamented that the Government failed to provide power to domestic as well as farm sector. Rural areas were not getting even three hours of quality power, he said.

Sarvey wants halt to demolitions

Meanwhile, former Union Minister Sarvey Satyanarayana demanded that the Telangana Government stop demolitions in the twin cities with immediate effect. He wanted the Government to consider the plea for regularisation of unauthorised structures.

Earlier, at a review meeting of Malkajgiri parliamentary constituency, TPCC chief Ponnala Lakshamaiah said that party workers would be given identity cards and membership drive would be completed by December. He appealed to the party workers to focus on GHMC elections later this year.

In a statement, PCC secretary K. Mahesh said that the guidelines of the Kamalnathan committee was likely to turn counter productive for the employees of Telangana. He reminded the Chief Minister that before the elections, he had claimed that there would be no options for employees but now the latter was silent on the issue.
