Loss Expected to Narrow for Sprint Nextel

Sprint Nextel is expected to book a narrower loss than a year ago when it reports first-quarter earnings on Wednesday, July 30, 2014. Analysts are expecting a loss of four cents per share, up from a loss of 31 cents per share a year ago.

Over the past month, the consensus estimate has fallen from a loss of three cents, but it's still up from the consensus estimate of a loss of six cents three months ago. For the fiscal year, analysts are expecting a loss of 25 cents per share. Analysts look for revenue to decrease 1% year-over-year to $8.69 billion for the quarter, after being $8.79 billion a year ago. For the year, revenue is projected to come in at $35.03 billion.

Over the last four quarters, revenue has fallen an average of 2% year-over-year. The biggest drop came in the third quarter, when revenue fell 12% from the year-earlier quarter.
