(DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) " How has the balanced promotion of tourism destinations and regions of Maharashtra been ensured, promoting lesser known places and at the same time maintaining popular destinations? Maharashtra has an array of destinations for various segments of tourists whether national or international. We have rightly identified true potential of these destinations and accordingly promoting them to appeal the respective target audiences. We have best of the wildlife tourism attractions in Vidarbha which we have been promoting nationally and globally. At the same time, we are coming up with world class projects of Seaworld and institute of scuba diving and aqua sports at Tarkarli in Sindhudurg to promote the destinations of Konkan. We have UNESCO World Heritage sites of Ajanta and Ellora caves in Marathwada which attracts many foreign tourists. We have created some modern facilities to enhance the experience of tourists here.



 How has organising festivals helped to boost domestic tourism? Festival is one of the best ways to reach to the masses as it attracts all alike. Last year we organized Diwali festival celebrations at Times Square in New York which was a big success and hence, this year too we are organising the same. We are also planning special promotions during the festivals of Dahi Handi and Ganesh. Marbat Festival of Nagpur and other festivals like, Strawberry Festival in Mahabaleshwar, Elephanta Festival, Wine festival in Nashik etc. are some of the most sought after events by tourists.

 What is your strategy for improved positioning of Maharashtra Tourism in India and internationally in 2014? We are aggressively promoting Maharashtra tourism through our TVCs, print, radio and outdoor campaign. We are also focusing on online media, social media marketing and mobile apps. We are organising media and tour operators' fam tours and organising Diwali at Times Square in New York. A similar event is also being planned at Quebec in Canada and we will participate in WTM.
