Saharanpur riots: Uttarakhand seals UP-Haridwar borders
DEHRADUN: In the wake of riots in the neighbouring Saharanpur district, Uttarakhand has been put on a high alert. The borders at Narsan and Bhagwanpur in Haridwar have been sealed to prevent any untoward incident. Security has been tightened along the Saharanpur border in Dehradun.
The route of several buses to Delhi, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, passing through Saharanpur, has been diverted.
Assistant general manager at ISBT Dehradun K P Singh said about 15 buses that ply between Dehradun and Saharanpur have been canceled till normalcy is restored in the riot-torn district in neighbouring UP.
DGP B S Sidhu told TOI, “As the border of Saharanpur touches Uttarakhand at many places, security has been beefed up in areas adjoining the violence-hit district.” He pointed out that police have carried out flag march in Dehradun and Haridwar and the security has been strengthened in Udhamsingh Nagar district.
The Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) has been asked by the DGP to present a report on the inputs received every hour. The cyber cell of the police department has also been instructed to keep an eye on online posts. “Meanwhile, senior police officials in all 13 districts have been told to closely monitor the areas having mixed population,” added Sidhu.
The DGP has also directed the circle officers to inspect their respective areas during night. PAC has been deployed at several places in Dehradun, added Sidhu.
