Soho China Will Open Zaha Hadid Buildings In Beijing, Shanghai In Sept.

This article is more than 9 years old.

Soho China , the Beijing real estate developer whose billionaire founders Pan Shiyi and Zhang Xin have been in the news this month for donating $100 million for scholarships, will formally open two new buildings in China designed by award-winning architect Zaha Hadid in September.

Wangjing SOHO in Beijing has three mixed-use office and commercial buildings, the tallest standing 200 meters high. The grand opening will be on Sept. 20 and feature a dialogue between Zhang and Hadid.

Sky SOHO is located near Shanghai’s Hongqiao transportation hub, and, like Hadid’s other work for SOHO in China, possesses a distinctive curvy appearance. The grand opening will be on Sept. 27, and also feature a conservation between Zhang and Hadid.

Soho China said earlier this month Pan and Zhang plan to set aside $100 million under their SOHO China Foundation to fund overseas study by Chinese undergraduates at the world’s top universities. That includes a newly signed $15 million agreement with Harvard.

Forbes estimate the couple’s fortune is currently worth $3.9 billion.
