KARACHI - Four TTP operatives were killed during separate shootouts with the law enforcing agencies in different parts of the city Sunday.
Police said Rangers official Farooq along with his neighbours was sitting outside his residence in Rehmani Mohalla when some armed motorcyclists targeted him late on Saturday night. Farooq and his neighbour Omarzada sustained severe injuries in the attack. They were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where both of them succumbed to the injuries.
Following the attack, Rangers conducted a targeted operation in Subhani Mohalla, Frontier Colony against the elements involved in attacking the security personnel.
The Ranger’s spokesperson claimed that the militants were hiding in a compound and on seeing the law enforcing agencies, two militants tried to escape on a motorcycle and resorted to firing. He said the Rangers’ troops chased and killed them near a graveyard.
Two pistols, improvised explosive device components and two hand-grenades were also recovered, said the spokesperson, adding the TTP operatives were involved in attacks on the law enforcement agencies specially police. They were also involved in extortion and kidnapping for ransom, he added.
Rangers conducted intelligence-based targeted operations against the TTP operatives in different areas in Karachi early on Sunday.
The Rangers spokesman said that militants namely Fauji Khan of TTP Mohmand Agency and Muhammad Jan aka Jana of Bajaur Agency were killed in Musharraf Colony. Both the militants were involved in various terror activities across the country.
Meanwhile, two Rangers personnel and a child were killed in a targeted attack in Landhi. The incident took place when two armed men wearing private security agency’s uniform opened indiscriminate fire on the Rangers personnel who were standing near Hospital Chowrangi, Landhi within the precincts of Quaidabad Police Station. The Rangers personnel received severe injuries and died on the spot. Unfortunately, a passer-by six-year-old girl also received in the attack and died immediately. Following the incident, heavy contingent of Rangers and police reached the site and cordoned off the area.
The Rangers personnel were deployed at a post located near Hospital Chowrangi in Landhi and the incident took place a few minutes before Iftari.
Police suspected the attack could have been a reaction of the ongoing operations against the militant hideouts in the city while further investigation was underway.
In order to avert any terror activity during Eidul Fitr, Sindh police finalised a plan to ensure security on the occasion and the provincial home department imposed ban on pillion ridding in Karachi.   
The Sindh government decided to impose a ban on pillion riding in Karachi during Eidul Fitr, said a notification issued by the provincial home department. Following the notification, the ban would come into effect immediately and remain enforced till midnight of August 1. The ban is being imposed for security reasons. However, senior citizens, journalists, women and personnel of law enforcement agencies are exempted from the ban.
Sources said there are threats of terrorism particularly in Karachi, and the intelligence agencies have also warned about the possible terror threats during Eidul Fitr. The intelligence agencies warned the terrorists could carry out their activities at public or governmental place during Eidul Fitr.
As many as 15,000 law enforcers, including police and Rangers, will provide security to over 11,000 Eid prayer congregations. Following the warnings, the police and Rangers have been asked to make extraordinary arrangements for Eid congregations and enhance patrolling and snap checking in the areas.
