6 medical colleges in MP imposed Rs 13.10 cr fine

The Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee, a statutory body for private professional colleges in Madhya Pradesh, has slapped a fine of Rs 13.10 crore on six medical colleges for allegedly filling MBBS seats under government quota in a non-transparent manner during the academic session 2013-14.

Several candidates who were allotted these medical colleges in Bhopal, Indore and Ujjain through centralised counseling had mysteriously cancelled their admissions, and the management of these colleges quickly filled up the seats without informing the Directorate of Medical Education, a state government body.

Indore-based activist Anand Rai, who wrote letters to the Special Task Force which is investigating the MPPEB scam, the DGP and the chief secretary, and also complained to the AFRC, alleged that most last-day admissions (on 30 September, 2013) were fraudulent and an off-shoot of the multi-layered scam.

In its order, the AFRC did not refer to any scam and only said the counseling schedule fixed by competent authority was not followed and that the colleges did not follow transparency during counseling on that day.
