Harleys roar to save the tigers

BANGALORE: It was biking for a mission as 48 Bangaloreans atop their Harley Davidson bullets started from Cubbon Park at 8am on Sunday to reach Bannerghatta Biological Park by 8.45am.
Their mission titled 'Ride for the Roar' aimed to raise funds for the anti-poaching camp staff who are an important link in protecting the big cats. This year alone, India has lost 28 tigers to poaching and illegal wildlife trade.The funds will be used to buy mosquito nets, torches, raincoats and other basic items of necessity for anti-poaching camp staff at Bandipur Tiger Reserve. It will be handed over to the Tiger Reserve director on World Tiger Day observed on July 29.
An initiative of the Tiger Protection Society with Tusker Harley Davidson Bangalore chapter, this bike ride managed to raise Rs 15,000 at the end of the event. "We will soon buy the items and hand it over to the staff so they can save our national animal, the tiger, which is sadly on the brink of extinction," said S Kiran Kumar, executive director of Tiger Protection Society.
"As the situation worsens by the day, we want to create awareness on the plight of the tiger. This beautiful animal is losing its habitat, its home and its very survival is at stake," said Kumar.
Tiger Protection Society had provided first aid kits to anti-poaching guards in the past.
