Shopping activity in the city reached its crescendo in the run up to the ‘Eid-ul- Fitr’ festival which is likely to be celebrated on Tuesday.
Thousands of shoppers dropped in at the markets on the Charminar to Pathergatti stretch since early hours to make last minute purchases. As a result traffic slow down was witnessed throughout the day at many thoroughfares in the south of the city.
Women cutting across their age and social status thronged the Lad Bazaar bangle market while men preferred the shops at Pathergatti for traditional wear like kurta pyjama, sherwani and the likes.
Despite it being a Sunday many commercial establishments and shops were open at Abids, Ameerpet, Koti, Secunderabad and Dilsukhnagar. A mad rush was witnessed at the stores till late evening with people dropping in hordes. Local markets at Musheerabad, Yousufguda, Golconda, Kishanbagh, Hafeezbabanagar and Erragadda too, were bustling with shoppers.
Shops selling vermicelli and dry fruits were a beehive of activity. People from the city and adjoining districts thronged these stores for their requirements. A few shops at Begum Bazaar, Afzalgunj and Miralam Mandi, which are known to stock quality vermicelli, drew huge crowds.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister, Mohd Mahmood Ali, visited the Eidgah Miralam, Madannapet and reviewed the arrangements being made for the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers. He was accompanied by Wakf Board, Police and GHMC officials.
