Johannesburg - A policeman was shot and wounded while attending to a crime scene in Hebron, north of Pretoria on Sunday, North West police said.
Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said the police were called after a fight broke out at a tavern.
"It is alleged that the police were still at a scene, opposite to a tuck shop, when they received [a] tip-off that the suspects have entered the shop," he said.
"Upon realising that the police were around the suspects allegedly started shooting..."
A policeman was shot in the lower body and was taken to hospital in a stable condition. He was later discharged, Ngubane said.
He said the gunmen fled the scene on foot with airtime vouchers worth R7 000 and a cellphone. No arrests had been made.
