Coach Bill O’Brien pronounced the Texans’ second training-camp practice Sunday better overall than the previous day’s performance, but he wasn’t exactly effusive in his praise, admitting, “We’re still a long way from where we need to be.”

He called the team’s execution “slightly better” and branded the offensive tempo “decent but nowhere near where it needs to be or is going to be.”

Asked to elaborate on that, O’Brien said: “We like to play at a fast tempo. We believe in controlling the tempo, obviously offensively. But (we’re) still an installation mode. So you’re huddling, calling the play, going to the football . . . hopefully by practice six, seven or eight that whole process speeds up where you’re in no huddle, in the huddle, going back and forth, so you’re controlling the tempo.”
