What They Were Thinking: Last-minute goal

Every Sunday, Boston Globe photographer Stan Grossfeld asks the subject of one of his photos to explain what’s happening in the shot.

What’s up today: Ryan Leone, 9, of Millis, sitting in the Liverpool section of the Fenway Park bleachers, reacts with dismay following AS Roma’s last-minute goal to secure a 1-0 victory, July 23, 2014

Leone: “I was thinking the guy [Liverpool defender Jack Robinson] should’ve stopped it. It actually went through his legs and he should have just closed his legs and not screened the goalkeeper. The player shouldn’t have been screening the goalie. It was his fault, not the goalie’s. I play soccer more than baseball because a couple of years ago I had trouble hitting the baseball a lot. One day I just got into Liverpool — I’ll probably have trouble going to sleep tonight. Nah, I’m not going to cry. I was just unhappy that Roma scored. I think when I get home I’ll jump in my bed and scream in my pillow.”
