Ranji Trophy to begin on January 2

So the Ranji Trophy will begin late this year. But we can confirm it will not be too late. The 50-50 Vijay Hazare Trophy - in view of the next year’s World Cup -- will sure precede the four-day matches but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning a January start for the national championship.

In all probability, the Ranji Trophy will commence on January 2, 2015, and the BCCI hopes to wrap the league stage by March 5. The knock-out matches will begin on March 11 and should culminate with the final on April 5.

The tentative dates of all the domestic fixtures were discussed at the Anil Kumbleled technical committee meeting here yesterday and as per the planned fixtures, the Vijay Hazare tournament will run from December 1 to 18 with league stage completing on December 8. The knock-outs will begin on December 12.

The inter-zonal one-day competition for the Deodhar Trophy will follow Vijay Hazare tournament. It will be from December 23-26. The inter-state Twenty20 Mustaq Ali Trophy will begin on November 10 and should be over by November 24. These dates will need the approval of domestic tours and fixtures committee which will meet here on August 3.

The Kumble panel has decided to do away with the Challenger Trophy for the NKP Salve Trophy. It has also decided to scrap the Corporate Trophy for the Raj Singh Dungarpur Trophy. Strange decision really, as the administrators have cancelled two one-day competitions in a World Cup year.

Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad to host tests

Meanwhile, the Tours and Fixtures Committee has decided to host the three Test matches against the West Indies in Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad. The matches will be held in October-November. Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, Cuttack, Dharamsala and Kochi are the venues of the ODIs. Delhi will host the only T20 International slated for the series. The exact date-wise match-schedule will be finalised later on the basis of logistics, the BCCI said in a statement.
