BHUBANESHWAR: About 1,300 headmasters of secondary high schools have threatened to go on indefinite ceasework from July 2, if the government does not reconsider their transfer cases.
They alleged that the government had violated its own rule by transferring them out of their blocks.
"To avoid any legal complications, the department had decided that instead of districts, blocks would be considered for posting of headmasters.
But surprisingly, all the 1,336 transfers were made to different districts without considering cases like critical patients, widows, husband-wife case or physically challenged persons," said president of United Teachers' and Employees' Coordination Committee Judhisthir Khatua.
They said that about 1,000 headmasters had not joined their new postings while others had gone on leave. "We had discussed the matter several times with the secretary of the department and the issue was also raised in the assembly, but no steps were taken. If the teachers don't feel comfortable or face difficulties at their new place of work, how can they function properly? Such decisions will definitely affect the quality of education in the state," said another teacher Ramachandra Sahu.
