Dhanush's "Velai Illa Pattathari" (VIP) has completed its first week on a fantastic note. The film has minted ₹19.15 crore in its opening week at the Tamil Nadu box office, according to entertainment industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai.

"VIP" has turned out to be biggest hit of this year so far. "#Velaiillapattadhari 1st week TN nets = Rs 19.15 Cr! Humongous! @dhanushkraja delivers this year's biggest hit," Sreedhar Pillai tweeted.

"VIP", which hit the screens on 18 July, took the biggest opening ever for a Dhanush film by minting ₹4.36 crore on the first day of its release in Tamil Nadu. "I don't know how 2 thank my fans 4 givin VIP d biggest opening of my career n makin it a huge blockbuster.i dedicate my tears of joy 2 u all," Dhanush had tweeted.

The romantic action entertainer performed well in its opening weekend and earned nearly ₹13 crore. The film maintained steady business during the weekdays and raked in over ₹19 crore in its opening week.

The Dhanush starrer has started the second week on a good note and is expected to continue its successful run owing to Ramzan holiday. It is a government holiday for Ramzan (29 July) in Tamil Nadu. The film's business is expected to witness growth during the four-day long weekend. It will definitely help the film fetch more collections at the box office.

There have been no other big Tamil releases this weekend. Jai-Nariya's "Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah", which hit theatres on 24 July, has fetched mixed reviews from critics. The film is not expected to pose any threat for "VIP", which has already been received well by the audience.

"VIP" is likely to rule the box office at least till 1 August, when Siddharth-Karthik Subburaj's "Jigarthanda" hits the screens.

Directed by Velraj, "VIP" is Dhanush's 25th film in his career. The film, deemed as a romantic action entertainer has Amala Paul, Saranya Ponvannan, Samuthirakani, Vivek and Amitesh in supporting roles.

Dhanush appears in the role of an unemployed graduate who later gets a job and rises up against all odds. The actor's character name is Raghuvaran in the film and according to Dhanush, the "VIP" team chose the name as a mark of respect to the late actor Raghuvaran.

Produced by Dhanush's Wunderbar Films, "VIP" is a complete mass entertainer with all the commercial elements. The film's music is composed by Anirudh and cinematography is handled by Velraj.
