The Kalamassery police arrested Rasheed, 36, of Guruvayur, on charge of cheating many women after marrying them.

He was arrested based on a complaint by a Kollam resident. Rasheed approached her family to marry her after seeing a matrimonial advertisement in the newspapers. They were living at a house near Pathadipalam here after their wedding. The woman filed a police complaint unable to bear the constant abuse from her husband. Police investigated the case to find that Rasheed had married several times before.

He allegedly approached the families of poor women seeing their matrimonial ads and asked for their hand in marriage. Once married, he would leave after six or seven months stealing whatever gold or money he could get, police said. He allegedly told people that he was a comedy actor in a television serial.

Police said he first married a woman from Kondotty 14 years ago and stole gold and cash from her after three months. He was married to two other women and was planning a wedding with a Kozhikode native when he was arrested, police said.
