AHMEDABAD: A man and his son were caught taking the dead body of the latter's wife on motorbike at around on 3 am on Saturday. The Odhav police, who nabbed the two men at Nikol circle in Ahmedabad city, said the deceased woman had committed suicide and the man and his son intended to dispose of the body.
"The son, Mukesh Khant, is 25 years old and lives at Shivam Flats in Bapunagar area of the city.
The father, Vakhatram Khant, claimed that Mukesh's wife had committed suicide and that they were on way to dispose of the body," said police sub-inspector of Odhav police station, RG Khant.
The police said Mukesh, a science graduate, was having an affair with Durga who was originally from Dungarpur in Rajasthan. "They had got married just 10 days back. But even after their marriage, Mukesh had kept Durga in a separate, rented flat," said sub-inspector Khant.
Sources in the police said that, according to Mukesh's statement, he had visited his wife, Durga, on Friday morning. His wife had asked him for the keys of his flat because she wanted to rest. However when Mukesh returned home from work on Friday evening, he found Durga hanging by her neck from the ceiling fan. Mukesh works as a web designer with a private company on CG Road."He then called his father, Vakhatram, who is a peon in a government office. Vakhatram rushed home and the two men decided to dispose of Durga's body," said an Odhav police official. At 3 am in the night, Mukesh and his father put Durga's body on a bike and drove away with the intention to throw it away somewhere.
"However, when they were crossing Nikol circle, an auto-rickshaw driver saw both legs of the dead woman dragging along on the road. He became suspicious and called the police control room," said sub-inspector Khant. Police on patrol duty on the same road intercepted the bike on Kathwada road. "At first, Vakhatram, who was driving the bike, told the police that Durga was ill and that they were taking her to the hospital," said sub-inspector Khant. However, as Durga's legs were hanging limp and touching the road, policemen on checked the body and found it dead. "We apprehended the man and his son and handed them over to Bapunagar police," said Khant.
