A deputy rescued a woman trapped in a campground bathroom outside of Telluride on Saturday, removing the hinges from a jammed steel door that had locked her inside the outhouse, according to San Miguel County Sheriff Bill Masters.

The woman’s husband called 911 after she became stuck in the cinder block structure at Priest Lake. An extrication truck — typically used to free people trapped in vehicles — from the Telluride Fire Department responded shortly after sheriff’s deputies arrived at the campground.

Fire crews were preparing to saw through the steel door when the deputy was able to free the woman, Masters said.

Masters said the U.S. Forest Service was notified that the door needed to be replaced.
