BCCI will appeal against Jadeja’s fine: Rajeev Shukla
Jadeja was fined 50% of his match fee for his altercation with James Anderson during the Trent Bridge Test match
Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will appeal to the International Cricket Council (ICC) against its decision to penalize Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for his altercation with England fast bowler James Anderson during the first Test at Trent Bridge, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla said on Saturday.
“Board will go for appeal in ICC. We will put forward our case before ICC and we hope that justice will be done with Mr Jadeja. Right now, it won’t be appropriate for me to comment about it, but I think injustice has been meted out to Mr Jadeja and we will fight it out in the ICC," Shukla told reporters here on Saturday after chairing a meeting of the BCCI’s tour programme and fixtures committee.
Jadeja was fined 50% of his match fee for his altercation with Anderson by match referee David Boon.
The clash, which occurred as the players left the field at lunch on the second day, saw Jadeja charged with a level two misconduct charge for allegedly approaching Anderson in a threatening manner. Anderson was charged with a level three offence for having “abused and pushed" his opponent. Referee Boon found left-arm spinner Jadeja, who was batting at the time, not guilty of the offence for which he had been charged but felt his conduct was contrary to the spirit of the game.
The BCCI in a statement had said that it was fully behind Jadeja after Boon found the player guilty of “conduct contrary to the spirit of the game".
The ICC has set aside 1 August as the date to conduct the hearing of the complaint by the Indians against Anderson. PTI
