SCB to check Dutee's reports
CUTTACK: The Odisha Olympic Association (OOA) on Friday sent the medical reports of sprinter Dutee Chand to superintendent of SCB Medical College and Hospital for examination. The athlete was dropped from the Indian squad for Commonwealth Games at the last minute on grounds of high androgen level.
The Sports Authority of India (SAI), which had conducted Dutee's tests, handed over the medical reports to her on Thursday evening.
She submitted those to the OOA.
The state government and the association have decided to check Dutee's medical reports with qualified doctors. OOA secretary Asirbad Behera said copies of the medical reports will also be sent to a Delhi-based hospital and to a hospital in London for verification.
"Our first priority is to ensure there is no lacuna in SAI's medical reports. Hence, we have decided to seek the opinion of specialists. The report comprises more than 20 pages. After discussion with SCB superintendent, we have sent a copy to him and in a day or two we will send the reports to Delhi and London," said Behera.
He said a four-member team of SCB doctors has been formed to examine the clinical reports and, if required, Dutee's blood tests will be conducted again. "It is a very sensitive issue as an athlete's career is at stake. If the experts find any discrepancy, we will take up the matter with SAI," he added.
"If the report is found to be correct, we will provide necessary medical help to her," said Behera.
Asked whether OOA has sought an explanation from SAI about the androgen test on Dutee, Behera said "Though we are yet to receive any official communication, SAI has hinted the test was conducted on basis of some complaints against Dutee."
Dutee said, "I had really worked hard for last two years for the Commonwealth Games. It was very painful when I was dropped from the team."
