VADODARA: M S University's (MSU) syndicate members on Friday decided to drop the proposal of constructing the building of Maharaja Ranjitsinh Gaekwad Institute of Design (MRGID) adjacent to the Department of History and along— 'bhukhi nullah' — the natural tributary of Vishwamitri river.
MRGID's building will now come up at Gulab Bagh — the official residence of pro vice-chancellor.

TOI had earlier reported that based on independent opinions received from expert architect and structural engineer, the building committee had recommended to drop the proposal to construct MRGID near D N Hall ground.
As recommended by the building committee, Gulab Bagh bungalow will be retained and made a part of the new institute's building.
Design proposals for the new building will be invited through a competitive process and a jury of three eminent architects will adjudge the design.
The syndicate members have also appointed professor Magan Parmar as dean of Faculty of Social Work for second term. With this, professor Parmar will continue as member of the syndicate.
Also, Kashyap Parikh has been appointed head of Department of Applied Arts and N G Bagodi head of Department of Graphic Arts at Faculty of Fine Arts.

A proposal to permit Department of English to offer MPhil programme from the current year has been cleared while vice-chancellor professor Yogesh Singh has been authorized to look into the demand of students of Faculty of Science to promote them from first year to second year and from second year to third year.
Also, the ATKT requirements for all faculties have been revised. It has been decided that if a student passes in 40 per cent of papers of the previous year (earns 40 per cent of the credits) he or she will be eligible for ATKT. At present, the rule is for 50 per cent of papers or credits.
