VADODARA: Five days after a dog mauled a seven-year-old girl student, a complaint was lodged against the principal, vice-principal and director of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan's V M Public School in Makarpura police station for acting negligently and endangering human life.
Father of seven-year-old Mehnaz Jamali, who was mauled by stray dogs on the school campus last week, registered FIR against the school's principal Hemant Kumar, vice-principal Manisha Saathe and director Deepak Dalal late on Thursday night.
The cops have booked the trio under IPC sections 268, 337 and 338.
District collector Vinod Rao had sent the inquiry report of DEO to city police commissioner Satish Sharma on Thursday evening. "We have begun investigations in the case and we are taking statements of the parents. The accused trio will be arrested within next couple of days. They have been accused of showing criminal negligence by the father of the girl, who was mauled by stray dogs," said Makarpura police inspector, A J Jhala.
The FIR states that the accused didn't provide proper security in the school, delayed taking Mehnaz for treatment to hospital and didn't provide facts about the incident. The parents had struck compromise with the school management three days ago but Rao intervened in the matter. He met the parents and later ordered inquiry into the incident. The DEO indicted Bhavan's School management for not providing proper facilities to the students and having lax security arrangements.
The report also mentioned that the female students were at risk inside the school premises due to presence of casual labourers. Following the report, Rao called the Bhavan's management representative and asked him to either transfer the Kumar and Saathe or send them on long leave, pending investigations. The management told Rao that they will send the duo on leave. Parents of the school students had several grievances against the management that led them to organize demonstrations outside the school over last few days.
The police had earlier refused to register FIR against the school despite parents of school students insisting to do so. Instead of registering the complaint, the cops posed bizarre query that how could they register FIR against stray dogs that bit Mehnaz. However, after a scathing report by the district education officer (DEO) that indicted Bhavan's school management for lack of security and other facilities, the police decided to register an FIR.
