‘Kick’ review: Power packed

‘Kick’ music review

Music: Himesh Reshammiya, Yo Yo Honey Singh, Meet Bros Anjjan

Label: T-Series

Trust every Salman Khan film to present massy tunes and entertain the audience with catchy one liners, which become a rage over time. Kick?s music is no different, with quite a few tracks from the film having already become popular among the actor’s fans. Two of the songs from the film are composed by Himesh Reshammiya, while Yo Yo Honey Singh and Meet Bros Anjjan have done one song each. The album opens with the energetic Jumme ki raat, sung quite well by Mika Singh, with Palak Mucchal on the female vocals. This Qawalli inspired number is high on dhol beats and the signature jingle is very catchy. No wonder, the song has already climbed the music charts. There is also a version in Khan’s voice, which is fun, thanks to the actor’s enthusiasm. Next comes the soft and contemporary Hangover.

Don’t go by the name, because Hangover is well composed and we love the way Salman Khan has crooned this number. Khan’s natural style of singing adds dollops of charm to this melodious song, where singer Shreya Ghoshal also does a good job. The contemporary and electronic beats in the song are easy on the ears, making it a must hear. The Hangover MBA swag version, mixed by DJ Sumit Sethi and Prince, is strictly okay. We prefer the original version.

Reshammiya’s romantic composition, Tu hi tu, is decent. Mohammad Irfan, who created magic with Banjaara from Ek Villain, has performed well. A few portions of the track sound similar to Surili Ankhiyon Waale from Veer, but the use of guitars and the piano is exceptional in Tu hi tu. Khan’s version of the song is decent and it certainly looks like the actor has sung straight from the heart. The promotional number featuring Nargis Fakhri and Khan, is high on electronic beats and makes for an excellent club number. Yo Yo Honey Singh’s tunes create magic again and how! His rap is good and has sung his portions equally well, but it is Canadian music artist Jasmine Sandlas who shines. Her unique voice quality is the trump card of this number. Overall, we think the Kick album surely packs a punch and is good enough to entertain the masses.
