Manchester United are preparing a move to sign Tottenham Hotspur summer target and PSV Eindhoven star Memphis Depay this summer, according to the Express.

The 20-year-old had an impressive spell for the Dutch club last season, which saw him make it to the Netherlands squad for the World Cup. Depay scored twice and registered an assist in the summer tournament in Brazil.

His form has seen him attract interest from the Premier League clubs as the north London side, along with United are keen on securing a deal for the talented player. Depay's style of play has seen him being dubbed as the "new Cristiano Ronaldo".

Louis van Gaal took charge as United manager earlier this month after resigning as the Netherlands coach following their third place finish in the World Cup. The former Barcelona and Bayer Munich boss has worked with Depay during their time with the national side.

United would be hoping that Van Gaal's equation with Depay could convince the player to spurn a chance to join Tottenham or their arch rivals Manchester City in order to make a switch to Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, the midfielder has acknowledged that he is aware of the growing interest from the Premier League outfits in his services.

"Of course I've read that Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are interested. But no more than that," Depay told Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad.

"I'll see later. My agent Kees Ploegsma is here [in Brazil] too, but we are not talking about that kind of stuff. That is for after the World Cup."

However, Depay has also admitted that he could continue at PSV beyond the summer transfer window.

"I don't rule that out [staying at PSV]. I've not become a champion with PSV. The fact is that people now ask me what I'm going to do and I understand that. But now, it's the World Cup," the midfielder said earlier in June.

Depay is still young and has tremendous potential to become one of the future stars. United are looking to step up their interest in signing the Dutch midfielder.

However, the Red Devils are willing to let the player stay with his current employers for one more season on-loan, should they sign him this summer.
