PharmaSecure Has Issued IDs to a Billion Medicine Packs
New York, NY (PRWEB) July 26, 2014 -- Patient data company, PharmaSecure, announced today that the number of medicine packs it has affixed with unique identifiers has crossed 1 billion. These IDs not only protect patients in India, Nigeria, and other countries around the world from counterfeits, but also allow PharmaSecure to collect important information on the behavior and outcomes of patients taking specific medicines.
“Our goal is to uniquely identify every medicine package and a good sample of the patients who use them,” said Nathan Sigworth, Founder and CEO of PharmaSecure. “Achieving 1 billion packages is a big accomplishment; there’s still a lot more to do.”
Launched by Sigworth and his college roommate at Dartmouth College in 2007, PharmaSecure now protects patients from counterfeits while helping pharmaceutical companies and public health institutions access better information about the distribution and behavior of patients. “We’re learning a lot about when and why chronic patients in emerging markets drop their treatment; this is important for the pharmaceutical companies, but also in winning the fight against Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and other public health scourges,” Sigworth said.
