Amateur Wad storms to victory at Singha-SAT event

Amateur Wad Phaewchimplee stormed to a wire-to-wire victory at the Singha-SAT Thai LPGA event in Prachin Buri yesterday.

With a one-shot lead after two rounds, the 19-year-old freshman from Kent State University fired a four-under-par 68 in the last round for 207.

Wad was four shots ahead of runners-up Wichanee Meechai (70) and Jaruporn Palakawong Na Ayutthaya (71) in the ninth tournament of the season at Kabinburi Sport Club.

While amateur Wad took the trophy, Wichanee and Jaruporn shared the winner's cheque of 60,900 baht.

Sherman Santiwiwatthanaphong (67), who won the previous tournament, shared fourth place on 213 with Rungthiwa Pangjan (69).

Two strokes down further at joint sixth were Nuttakate Nimitpongkul (70) and Tanaporn Kongkiatkrai (70) who won at the Hua Hin Open last week.

The 10th event of the season will take place at Rancho Charnvee Country Club in Nakhon Ratchasima on Aug 6-8.

Meanwhile, Kiradech Aphibarnrat has confirmed to take part in next week's Singha Chiang Mai Open at Mae Jo Golf Club and Resort.

Also at the 2.2 million baht tournament will be Prayad Marksaeng, Thaworn Wiratchant, Chapchai Nirat and Prom Meesawat.
