Suarez on schedule for a clasico debut

Luis Suarez could make his Barcelona debut against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in October.

The Spanish league announced its schedule for the 2014-15 season on Thursday, and the first “clasico’’ is due to take place on the weekend when Suarez’s four-month ban for biting an opponent at the World Cup is to end.

Real Madrid will host Barcelona in the ninth round on the weekend of Oct. 25-26. Suarez’s suspension will be completed Oct. 25.

It will be up to Spain’s television broadcasters and the league to decide which clubs play on each day. The decision is taken a week before each round.

The return match at the Camp Nou will be on the weekend of March 21-22.

If he were available, Suarez would be unlikely to make much of an impact because of his inability to train with the rest of the squad during the suspension.

Suarez was banned for nine competitive international matches, four months from all football and fined 100,000 Swiss francs ($112,000) for biting the shoulder of Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay’s 1-0 win over Italy at the World Cup.

It is the third time Suarez has been banned for biting an opponent, after similar incidents at both Ajax and Liverpool.

The Spanish season opens on the weekend of Aug. 23-24, with Barcelona hosting Elche and Real Madrid hosting Cordoba. Defending champion Atletico Madrid will visit Rayo Vallecano.
