: An inland container depot at Nanjangud, goodshed yard at Chikkamagalur or Chamarajanagar, a satellite station at Belagola and extension of the Mumbai–Bangalore Udayan Express to Mysore are some of the new proposals mooted by the Mysore Division of the South Western Railways.

This was disclosed by Divisional Railway Manager Rajkumar Lal at an interactive meeting with members of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here on Friday.

Mr. Lal said the satellite station at Belagola would help industries as it was located close to industrial estates. Though it was proposed at Ashokapuram, the station was landlocked and hence Belagola has been identified for development as a satellite station, he said.

He said consequent to the completion of track-doubling work between Mysore and Bangalore, additional trains would be introduced between the two cities, but the Divisional Railway Manager was non committal on the travel time. He said there were capacity constraints and too many trains on the track could not facilitate an increase in the speed of trains on the section. Mr. Lal said the railways was keen on enhancing its customer service in the parcel segment and many courier companies were taking advantage of it.

Earlier, Vasu, Chamaraja MLA, interacted with CII members and assured them an audience with the Chief Minister for discussing the industrial plan for Mysore conceived by the CII.

The members suggested an industrial corridor on the Bangalore–Mysore stretch to boost development in both cities and along the corridor, while a few members sought improved air and road connectivity between the two cities.

The CII members said they wanted to see Mysore develop as an ideal or a model tier-2 city not only in Karnataka but in India. Hence, they were keen to work with the government.

R.C. Jagadesh, chairman, CII Mysore, was present.
