Workers at the Boston's Museum of Fine Arts are scrubbing the institution of a collection of crude Homer Simpson drawings found spray-painted around the grounds.
Images of the cartoon character's face appeared in locations including the pedestal for the museum's iconic "Appeal to the Great Spirit" sculpture.
In a statement, museum officials said the graffiti showed up early this morning.
"No artwork was vandalized or damaged, and the graffiti is being removed," the statement read. "The Museum is working with the Boston Police Department regarding the incident."
Many who walked by and saw the drawings were puzzled by the vandal's choice of subject matter.

"Why Homer?" asked Richard Bentley, 51, of Waltham, who watched as a worker power washed graffiti off of a building. "It's got to be some young college kid or something. I don't think it's a statement or anything like that."
He added: "Well, it wasn't an art student."
Marylou Colozzi, 64, of Winchester, said she hopes police find the perpetrator, whom she believes "was probably drunk."
