Andhra Pradesh Government which represented to the Centre on Wednesday over the impasse in Eamcet counselling on nativity issue raked up by the Telangana Government, is planning to issue notification for medical counselling first.
Social Welfare Minister R. Kishore Babu, who was part of the delegation which met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Home Secretary, said here on Thursday that the government would send their proposal on medical counselling to the Telangana government. “We will seek their response. If they don’t accept or respond, we will be moving court as any more delay would be detrimental to the interests of the students in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. We are confident that the 1956 cut- off date for nativity proposed by the Telangana government would not be legally valid as it is against Constitution,” he said. Nativity issue was related to 25 lakh people settled in Telangana from other States including Andhra.
LacunaeWhile lacunae in the educational institutions should be corrected, the Telangana government could not redefine nativity at its will, he added. The Andhra Pradesh represented to the Centre that the Telangana Chief Minister was acting in violation of the Constitution and the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Act. Further the Presidential order also defined the local candidate for admission in higher education institutions as those who studied for four consecutive years in a local area prior to the qualifying examination.
“We expect the Centre to ensure that the Telangana State abided by the Act. We have also taken to the notice of the Union Home Minister that the Governor is not using his special powers under Section 8 of the Act to resolve the impasse related to Eamcet counselling,” Mr. Kishore Babu said.
