Forget roughing it. Summer camp for the rich and elite is more like an elongated luxury vacation that includes chauffeur-driven tours through New York City with stops for shopping at select and elite stores.
The New York Post reported one summer camp day for teens born with silver spoons in their mouths — and an affinity for horses — includes gourmet fish, chips and sushi at the Ocean Grill, a leisurely horseback ride through Central Park and a chauffeured stretch limousine ride, with scheduled stops at an equestrian shop and FAO Schwarz.
“Traveling in the limo will be really cool,” said 14-year-old Melano Popiashvili, who was taking part in the summer camp experience with her friends, the New York Post reported. And 11-year-old Anna Friedland added: “I’m going to buy my favorite candy to take back to the dorm,” while sipping on a Shirley Temple, the media outlet reported.
The costly summer camp — at about $2,150 a week — comes from the International Riding Camp located in the southern part of Catskills. The travels to New York City are an optional — and $600 — package add-on, the New York Post reported. But the camp also offers a discount for those who send their kids the full eight weeks — at $12,500.
“We’re one of the premiere camps in the world for girls who live and breathe horses,” said Arno Mares, the founder and director of the institution, in the New York Post. “They come here to fulfill their dreams.”
